• Welcome
• Introductions of today’s topics & material that the students will be covering.
• Take attendance.
• Register any new students & give the students everything that you passed out to the class on the first day of class.

• Explain the lesson agenda & what you will be covering in class. Explain what you will be covering in Part 1 & Part 2. 

• Cover any of the chapters or questions in the rules of the road booklets that you have not covered.

Required Activity:

• Pass out the Activity: Chapter 5, Natural Laws of Car Control

Have students work on the activity, individually. Remind the students to do a good job on this "starter activity" Let them know that the activity will need to be turned in, later in the class. Tell the students to write out the reasons why people should use safety belts. Do not let the students draw arrows, or lines. Also tell them not to draw numbers or letters…

 

Remind the students that they will get similar "starter activities" when they arrive, each day in class. This comment will prepare the students to do a good job on the starter activities & it will let them know that you will be collecting the activities, as well.

• Discuss the activity & the importance of wearing seat belts.
• Show the students video selections from the day # 3, video list:

• Seat belts
• Train Safety
• Bus Safety
• Driving Responsibly

• Give the students some safe tips for driving in the driver’s education program.
• Give the students some safe tips for driving with their parents.
• Remind the students about responsibilities of driving.
• Make sure they have all of the important phone numbers.

• The main office phone number
• Their driving instructor’s cell phone number.
• Remind them to call if there are any problems or emergencies.

• IMPORTANT ACTIVITY

• Have the students draw a map to get to their house, from the nearest intersection.

• Collect the homework assigned: THE DASHBOARD DRAWING
• Dashboard Drawing: Have students draw the dashboard of a vehicle. Have them include Year, make, model. Tell the students when the assignments are due. You can have them turn in the assignment the next class session, or you can tell them the assignment is due at the beginning of class # 3, or 4….

• Review the students dashboard configurations & drawings.
• Discuss Parts of the Car & Skills of the Car & Skills of driving:

• Starting the car, stopping the car, accelerating the car…

• Pass out the activity Basic Car Control, What am I ?
• Have the students work on the activity
• Tell the students that they can use the textbook: Drive Right, to supplement the activity. The answers can be found in the Drive Right Text Book, CHAPTER # 3. All of the answers can be found in chapter # 3; the answers will be underlined, boldfaced or highlighted.
• Discuss questions & answers to the activity.

• Have students read & review Chapter # 3, in the Driver Right Text book.
• Have students read pages 40 – 56.
• Read / Discuss the Chapter # 3, Review Questions, at the end of the chapter.
• Read / Discuss Reviewing Chapter Objectives 1 – 14 on Page 57
• Read / Discuss the Chapter Test on Page 58, Questions # 1 – 13.
• Read / Discuss the Decision Making Questions 1 – 4, on page 59.
