Part 1: Safety Tips, Seat Belts & Maps
Required Activity:
Have students work on the activity, individually. Remind the students to do a good job on this "starter activity" Let them know that the activity will need to be turned in, later in the class. Tell the students to write out the reasons why people should use safety belts. Do not let the students draw arrows, or lines. Also tell them not to draw numbers or letters
Remind the students that they will get similar "starter activities" when they arrive, each day in class. This comment will prepare the students to do a good job on the starter activities & it will let them know that you will be collecting the activities, as well.
Use the format in the lesson plan binder. Have the students include all of their important information, such as: address, phone number, work schedule, school schedules & activities, parents phone numbers, emergency information
You can keep this information with you in the drivers education vehicle in case of an emergency situation !

Part 2: Parts of the Car, Parts of the Dashboard,
Basic Skills of Driving, Chapter # 3 from the Drive Right Textbook
- Collect the homework assigned: THE DASHBOARD DRAWING
- Dashboard Drawing: Have students draw the dashboard of a vehicle. Have them include Year, make, model. Tell the students when the assignments are due. You can have them turn in the assignment the next class session, or you can tell them the assignment is due at the beginning of class # 3, or 4 .
- Review the students dashboard configurations & drawings.
- Discuss Parts of the Car & Skills of the Car & Skills of driving:
- Pass out the activity Basic Car Control, What am I ?
- Have the students work on the activity
- Tell the students that they can use the textbook: Drive Right, to supplement the activity. The answers can be found in the Drive Right Text Book, CHAPTER # 3. All of the answers can be found in chapter # 3; the answers will be underlined, boldfaced or highlighted.
- Discuss questions & answers to the activity.
- Have students read & review Chapter # 3, in the Driver Right Text book.
- Have students read pages 40 56.
- Read / Discuss the Chapter # 3, Review Questions, at the end of the chapter.
- Read / Discuss Reviewing Chapter Objectives 1 14 on Page 57
- Read / Discuss the Chapter Test on Page 58, Questions # 1 13.
- Read / Discuss the Decision Making Questions 1 4, on page 59.
