Part 1: Rules of the Road
Go over any questions or information in the Drive Right Text Book, that you may not have covered
Students can use their rules of the road booklets or the drive right textbook to help, if they cannot locate or identify the sign.

- Pass out the permit application forms. Have the students complete the information on the application forms in BLACK PEN. If they fail to complete the information on their permit application form, they could get yelled at. The people at the driver’s license services facility will tell them that they were supposed to complete the information in their driver’s education class, with their driver’s education, classroom instructor.

- Go over all of the requirements necessary to obtain a permit
- Remind the students about the necessary documents to bring to the driver’s license services facility. Also discuss the days & times that the facility is open.
- All states require the students to go to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles),
to obtain their driving permits and their driver’s licenses.
The state of Illinois does not have a department of motor vehicles.
Students need to go to the Illinois’ Secretary of State, Driver’s License Services Facility
- Review the notes: HOW TO OBTAIN A PERMIT
- Remind the students that they will have to take a written test at the driver’s license services facility.
- Tell the students, "Do not bring the practice test inside the driver’s license services facility. They don’t like it when the students bring the test inside.
- Pass out the Practice Permit Test.
- Give the students time to work on the Practice Permit Test in class.
- Go over questions & answers
- Discuss procedures regarding getting the permit & signing up for driving lessons.
- Remind students to stay after class if they have any other important questions regarding their permit situation, or any other situation, too !
Remember, a student cannot sign up for driving lessons, unless he/she has a driving permit !
