Part 1: Registration of Students

Check in all students

Make sure that all of the student information is correct on the class roster.

Make sure that you write down the correct information if you see any errors, missing information or incorrect information.

Send the correct information to the driving school office, right away !

That way, the new information can be updated on the database !

Introduce yourself and explain the driver’s education program.
Explain how the course is designed. Explain that the course is structured into two parts. The first part of the driver’s education program is about responsibilities of the driver. The second part is designed to cover driving situations.
Also explain that each class lesson is broken down into two parts. Remind the students what they will be covering, each day !
Cover all of the new laws, rules & requirements of the graduated driver’s license program implemented by the Illinois Office of the Secretary of State.
Explain what the students will need to bring to the driver’s license services facility, in order to obtain their driving permits. Make sure that you have the students complete the necessary information on the driving permit application form. The information must be completed in black pen. INSTRUCTORS MUST SIGN EACH APPLICATION FORM, FOR EACH STUDENT !
Also remind the Pass out the following information below. Read, explain and cover all of the material with the new students. Make sure that the students have a clear understanding of all of the course material. Answer any questions and clarify any information that the students might not understand.
Review & Re-Review the material. Especially the rules of the program, rules of conduct, requirements for successful completion and the responsibilities of the student.

Course Verification of credit, students need to turn in a blue form, pink form, yellow form, or the last two semesters of report cards, or a letter from their GED instructor.

Part 2: Rules of the Road

Pass out Rules of the Road Booklets to the students. Remind the students that the Rules of the Road Booklets are theirs to keep.

Remind students that they are responsible for learning, understanding &applying all of the rules of the road. When they are driving with our driver’s education program or with a responsible adult over 21, they are responsible for correctly following the rules of the road.

Remind students that they are responsible for all tickets they receive when they have a driving permit or a driver’s license.

Have students read & review the rules of the road.

Chapter 3, THE TRAFFIC LAWS: Pages 21 – 32,
Go over the questions & answers of chapter 3, with the students.

TEXTBOOK ACTIVITY

Have students read Pages 20 – 34 in the Drive Right Text Book.

Read & discuss questions & answers, found in the review section on pages 35 – 37

Discuss questions & answers with the students.

Some instructors assign homework to the students. The assignments are usually short, easy & fun. You can assign as many homework assignments as you would like. Keep them fun, easy & simple !

Follow up Homework Assignment:

Dashboard Drawing: Have students draw the dashboard of a vehicle. Have them include Year, make, model. Tell the students when the assignments are due. You can have them turn in the assignment the next class session, or you can tell them the assignment is due at the beginning of class # 3, or 4….

Another homework assignment you can assign:

Look at the Road Signs

Tell the students to look at the road signs on their way home from class. Remind the students to try to identify as many signs as possible !

For extra credit, have the students study the road signs found in the rules of the road booklet on pages 50 - 61
